I’m a Florida-based Fine Artist and a 2025 University of North Florida BFA graduate, exploring the enduring duality of life and death. My work blends factual observation with a touch of whimsy, often using animals as symbols of acceptance, transformation, and the natural cycle of existence. Through oil paint, acrylic, ink, charcoal, and tattooing I create pieces that honor both fragility and permanence.

Artist Statement
I am Matea B. W. I live in Jacksonville, FL.
With my work I explore the duality of life and death through drawing and painting. Inspired by Hermetic philosophy — “As above, so below” — my work reflects on mortality as a natural return to the earth. I use animals and plants as symbolic storytellers, blending scientific observation with occult themes to highlight the fragile, cyclical nature of existence.
Through greyscale ink drawings and oil paintings on hand-built wood panels, I explore the quiet tension between beauty and decay. As I continue to develop my craft, I aim to extend this exploration into the world of tattooing — using skin as another medium to bridge the gap between permanence and impermanence.
